After about two years of anticipation, downtown Altoona's new container park, The Yard, officially opened to the public on Saturday, July 26. The Yard, also host to seating and a stage, brought live music throughout the day to entertain folks enjoying the new space and chowing down on grub from The Yard's eateries.
Several small businesses now call The Yard home: Ne-Ne's Tacos, Borsch House, and Beast + Bonito dish up a great variety of cuisine; Coulee Boutique offers women's clothing, jewelry, and gifts; and Iron Horse Pub pours craft beers and ciders.
The Yard is within downtown Altoona's newly-designated DORA District – which stands for 'Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area' – allowing the public to walk throughout the area with open-container adult beverages.
Hours of live music, inflatables and mini golf, a cornhole tournament, and more activities were part of The Yard's grand opening day, with an official ribbon-cutting held in the early afternoon. Moving forward, The Yard (which is dog friendly too) will be open daily from 11am-10pm.
