Celebrate local artists by heading down to the L.E. Philips Memorial Public Library at the end of the month to sample a diverse selection of art pieces at the 33rd Annual ArtsWest juried visual arts show. This year’s exhibit will feature a wealth of traditional pieces, including classic and modern paintings and drawings, but also photographs, jewelry, sculptures, and glassware. ArtsWest has always been a great way to experience the work of the best veteran and up-and-coming area artists. Following suit, this year’s showing is sure to impress the accomplished artist and art enthusiast alike. Each year, a professional artist or art expert is chosen to judge the variety of submissions. This year, juror Peter Spooner, curator at the Tweed Museum of Art at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, selected 60 pieces representing 55 artists out of the pool of 176 works submitted by nearly 100 artists in several surrounding communities. Spooner will select winners to be announced at the reception, following the exhibition, on the evening of March 1 from 7-8:30pm in the gallery on the library mezzanine. Prizes will be awarded to the pronounced winners. Don’t miss your chance to see some of the most highly esteemed local creations and support local artists in the process. The exhibit will be open on February 26 and continue through April 6 during the library’s regular hours.
