If Pavement can do it, what the hay! Eau Claire band The Embellishment may have disbanded nearly 15 years ago, but that’s not stopping them from assembling a one-time reunion show at the House of Rock (422 Water St.) Saturday, Nov. 22. The soulful, heartfelt jams coming from The Embellishment and peers Mount Vernon, Jimmy’s Comet, and The Buddyrevelles in the early 2000s would help herald the success of groups like Megafaun and Bon Iver later on. Featuring songwriter Ben Shaw, The Embellishment released a full length CD Up Through the Concrete in 1999 (listen to it for free at TheEmbellishment.bandcamp.com). When the group disbanded in 2002, half of the members moved to Madison as part of Jimmy’s Comet while Shaw moved to the West Coast for sound engineering and later to practice entertainment law. The reunion show will feature Shaw, Jason Craft (UWEC Jazz I), Chris Ramey (The Jaggernauts, Jimmy’s Comet), Karl Christenson (Cribshitter, Icarus Himself, Jimmy’s Comet), and Adam Strom (another Comet-eer). The Jim Pullman Band will also perform at the reunion gig, and Shaw will kick off the night with solo set which he describes as “Ray LaMontagne-esque.” It’s a $5 show and doors open at 8pm with music starting at 10pm.
