UWEC Celebrates 100 Years With Poetry Contest
Poets, poets, wherefore art thou poets? Calling all Shakespearean Eau Claireans who have a divine way with words, UW-Eau Claire is looking for you to submit your poetry to honor the university’s centennial celebration. Whether you’re a current student, a faculty member, an alumnus, or simply part of the greater Chippewa Valley community, you’re invited to submit your original works of poetry for the UW-Eau Claire Centennial Poetry Competition, based on the theme “Reflections on Education.” Sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, McIntyre Library, and the English Department, the contest will award $1,000, $500, and $250 to first-, second-, and third-place winners, respectively. Submit your poems either via email to engl.contact@uwec.edu or by snail mail to UW-Eau Claire English Department, P.O. Box 4004, Eau Claire, WI 54702-4004. Make sure your submissions are in by the deadline of Dec. 31 to be considered for the contest! All winners will be expected to read their piece aloud on Monday, April 24, at the 2017 Frederick G. and Joan Christopherson Schmidt Robert Frost Celebration of American Poetry event held at 4pm in the Dakota Ballroom of the Davies Center. So dust off your typewriters, fire up your MacBook, or simply sharpen those pencils if you like to do things the old-fashioned way, and just get writing!
