Pippi ‘Yolo’ Longstocking
ECCT brings a favorite back to Eau Claire
Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is bringing the musical classic Pippi Longstocking back to Eau Claire Nov. 1. This fun and lighthearted production is based on the 1945 book written by Astrid Lindgren and is fit for audiences of all ages. Pippi Longstocking is the depiction of every kid’s dream. She is carefree, unsupervised, and makes her own rules. She disrupts the quiet town she lives in, and yet the town finds it impossible not to love her.
According to Wayne Marek, Executive Director for ECCT, the message behind the show goes deeper than the lighthearted surface might suggest. Pippi Longstocking causes mischief in the town, but doesn’t do so with malicious intent. She is young and carefree, living her best life. “Live your life to the fullest,” said Marek. “‘You never know where you might be tomorrow,’” he quoted from one of the songs.
Marek described this play as a chance for “multi-generational bonding.” Grandparents who loved reading the book growing up can now share their love of the story with their grandchildren. It is an excuse to pull the book back out and read it, then step into the book’s pages and experience the story anew as it comes alive on stage. This musical provides a fun family outing that all ages will enjoy.
Pippi Longstocking will run at The Oxford Theatre (1814 N. Oxford Ave., Eau Claire), Friday-Sunday, Nov. 1-3. Showtimes are Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 11:00am and 1:30pm, and Sunday at 1:30pm. Tickets are available at ecct.org or by calling (715) 839-8877.
