An International Invitational
annual ski jumping contest takes flight January 17-18

The 134th Annual Silver Mine Invitational will take place in Eau Claire Jan. 17-18 at the Silver Mine Ski Jump, 2900 Silvermine Drive. The event is a world-renowned ski jumping tournament, which will feature local competitors from the Flying Eagles Ski Club as well as top skiers from around the United States, Norway, Finland, Slovenia, Canada and more on Eau Claire’s own 90-meter ski jump. Gates open at 4pm Friday, which is the Eau Claire Energy Co-Op Night, with an opening ceremony at 6pm and the tournament beginning at 7pm. Saturday is the Charter Bank Family Day, and will feature the Nordic Combined Race at 10am at Tower Ridge Recreation Area. Back at the hill, the gates will open again at 4pm, followed by an opening ceremony at 5pm, head-to-head competition at 6pm, and the Xcel Energy Long Standing Jump starting at 8:30pm. Bonfires and a heated tent will be available for spectators, and there will be food, beverages, and memorabilia for purchase. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Children 12 and younger enter free, as do veterans and active military members. Tickets are available at local Menards and Kwik Trip locations as well as at Charter Bank, Dooley’s Pub, Eau Claire Energy Cooperative, Prestige Auto, Ray’s Place, Spring Street Sports, Visit Eau Claire, and Hilltop Tavern.
