SEE THE SLOPES? GET READY TO SKI THE SLOPES! A new ski tow is set to be installed by 2023, now that local nonprofit OutdoorMore Inc. has reached their fundraising goal. Though, they have more bold plans in place.

Did you know that between 1951 and 1967 Pinehurst Park was known as the “Pinehurst Ski Bowl”? Skiers and snowboarders trudged through deep snow to make their way to the top of Pinehurst Hill to experience a rush like no other as they flew on down. Now, for about a decade, local nonprofit OutdoorMore Inc. has worked to bring it back – along with a variety of other action sports. 

The organization recently reached a milestone, having raised $16,980 – enough to get plans in motion to install a new ski tow with construction beginning this summer, with an opening next winter. It’s part of a $40,000 fundraising goal to create new winter operations in the park. 

The new ski tow will be shared by skiers, snowboarders, and tubers, with the plan to purchase more tubes for rental, update the warming house, and add lighting on the ski hill in the future. Their hopes are that the expanded rental abilities will help expand lesson programming. In turn, this will give more people the opportunity to try skiing and snowboarding. They would also love to provide snowmaking, as current use of the hill is all up to Mother Nature.
