23rd annual Chippewa Valley Book Festival slated for October

Slated for Oct. 20-25 this fall, the Chippewa Valley Book Festival is back in its 23rd year and will feature 20 authors across 14 events at the newly remodeled L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library and the Pablo Center at the Confluence in Eau Claire.
Like in 2021, the festival will offer virtual and in-person options for its events. Four of the events require pre-registration, but all events are free to attend and are first-come, first-serve. Below is information on the four pre-registration events:
Reclaiming Our Stories with Nadia Owusu
On Thursday, Oct. 20 from 7:30-8:30pm, Owusu will discuss what happens when people discover that much of what they’ve learned about their bodies, themselves, their homes, and their places do not serve them, and how writing can help reclaim those stories toward healing and a radically reimagined world. This is a free event and offered only online, with a Q&A afterwards.
The Social Responsibility of Historical Fiction with Jamie Ford
Better than Paradise with Kawai Strong Washburn
Here on Lake Hallie: What One Author Learned While Writing About the People and Places She Loves with Patti See
On Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 7:30-8:30pm, See will discuss the process of writing about the place she loves best: Lake Hallie. She will also talk about some of the short essays in Here on Lake Hallie: In Praise of Barflies, Fix-it-Guys, and Other Folks in Our Hometown, a publication that establishes that, above all else, it is the friends, family, and neighbors who ultimately provide us a sense of belonging. The event is free and will be presented at the Pablo Center and offered virtually.
