PUPPY PASSION. Liz Berg is a humane officer at the Eau Claire County Humane Association, where she enforces town ordinances, investigates reports of animal neglect and cruelty, and offers resources and education.

Liz Berg is a true animal lover. With three cats, a dog, and a bearded dragon at home, it’s no surprise she is also a humane officer with the Eau Claire County Humane Association. Liz works directly with the community often and seen just how many amazing community members have adopted animals or volunteered. When she’s not at the ECCHA, you can find her outdoors playing Frisbee golf and kubb!

Whether it be helping someone find a new pet, reuniting a lost pet, or handing out food from our pet pantry, it all involves the community.

What place in town considers you a “regular”?

The farmers market, or on one of the many rivers or lakes, either taking the dog for a swim, fishing, or kayaking!

What is your favorite piece of local trivia?

Not sure if it’s considered trivia, but I love the different ghost stories associated with the Chippewa Valley, such as Banbury and Caryville.

What is one of the best cultural experiences you’ve had in the Chippewa Valley?

The International Fall Festival. I love seeing all the different items that people craft to sell and of course the amazing food to eat!

If you were on your death bed and got to eat one meal from a local restaurant what would it be? 

Chicken rice and noodle stir fry from Egg Rolls Plus. It’s a meal I crave at least a few times a month!

What sort of economic development would you like to see in our area?

An affordable housing option for people trying to get on their feet. If someone is in a tight spot and has to stay at a hotel, the cost of that alone doesn’t leave much room to save for the first month’s rent and security deposit. It’s very difficult for people to get themselves out of that situation. The city of Austin, Texas, has an amazing tiny house community where homeless people can get back on their feet. There is a woodworking shop, blacksmithing shop, art studio, garden, mechanic services, and even animals like chickens and goats. I’ve visited the community and it’s a really cool setup!

If you could rename Eau Claire with a different French name, what would it be? 

Deux Rivieres.

Chippewa Valley Museum. “My grandpa was an avid volunteer at the museum, and sometimes I would get to accompany him when he volunteered. I always loved seeing the different exhibits and learning the history of our area.”

Beaver Creek Reserve. “I love the educational opportunities the reserve offers throughout the year, and I absolutely love visiting the butterfly house! Their trails are well maintained and wind through creeks and along the river.”
