NOT A DRILL: Costco Is Coming to Town
developer will go to E.C. Plan Commission next week
The mega-retailer Costco is planning to enter the Chippewa Valley market, according to documents filed with the City of Eau Claire.
The city’s Plan Commission will consider a proposal to rezone property and to approve a general development plan for a 160,000-square-foot warehouse building – plus a members-only car wash, a members-only gas station, and two undeveloped lots – at 1476 Black Ave. on Eau Claire’s east side (near the interchange of the North Crossing and U.S. Highway 53).
Here are some more details from the Plan Commission agenda packet:
The narrative and site plan note that the Costco warehouse building will be approximately 160,479 square feet in size, with a free-standing member-only fueling facility, with a planned free-standing member-only car wash and two additional undeveloped commercial lots. The fueling facility is located to the northeast of the store and will provide three islands with 18 pumping locations (9 dispensers). A future expansion to extend the islands in order to add three more dispensers could add 6 pumping locations for a total of 24 dispensers. The car wash is located to the east of the proposed fueling facility and is approximately 4,568 square feet in size. The fuel and car wash facility placement within the site have been designed to provide access from the internal driveways and Black Avenue. The development has three proposed driveways from Black Avenue.
For those who’ve never made the pilgrimage to the nearest Costco in Woodbury, Minnesota, the company is a membership-only retail business which sells everything from TVs to clothing to famously inexpensive cafe hot dogs. More details of the plan will be forthcoming.
