Richard “Rick” St. Germaine, local musician and avid outdoorsman, passed away at the age of 50 on Oct. 23. Originally born in Palm Springs, California, St. Germaine moved to the area and later graduated from North High School.
A huge fan of heavy metal music and Metallica, it’s no surprise St. Germaine was a key member of so many local bands, his most successful being No Loving Place, Picard, and Ghosts of the Sun. St. Germaine often performed at Volume One’s Sounds Like Summer Concert Series and the family is accepting donations for a tree to be planted in Phoenix Park in Rick’s memory.
“Most summer weekends, you could find Rick at his family’s cabin, lovingly donned ‘the Mansion,’ in Winter, Wisconsin,” said his obituary. “He avidly enjoyed kayaking, biking, and hiking both in Wisconsin and throughout the United States. He recently hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back.”
St. Germaine is survived by his son Sebastian, his mother Christine, his sister Marcia, and his niece Aja. Rick was preceded in death by his stepfather Steve, his grandmother Patricia, and his Ghosts of the Sun and No Loving Place bandmate and friend, Eric Giardina.
The Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held on Oct. 29 from 1-4 pm at Stokes, Prock, & Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona. You can find his full obituary here.
