King Day Celebration Planned Jan. 16 at Pablo Center

The life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated at a remembrance event on Monday, Jan. 16, at Pablo Center at the Confluence.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance is a free event open to the public that will begin virtually and in person at 6pm in the Pablo Center’s Jamf Theatre. Doors open and community tables will be available starting at 5pm. Registration is required for the virtual program.

The event will include readings, music and multimedia presentations. Presenters will include UW-Eau Claire Chancellor James Schmidt; Dr. Frank Watkins, associate professor of choral music education and director of choral studies at UW-Eau Claire; B.J. Hollars, UW-Eau Claire professor of English and director of the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild; the band Irie Sol; Eau Claire City Council President Terry Weld; and Eau Claire Area School District students.   

The event organizer is  Dr. Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, a UW-Eau Claire professor of history and interim executive director for equity, diversity, and inclusion engagement. Sponsors include Pablo Center at the Confluence; the City of Eau Claire; St. James the Greater Catholic Church; the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Chancellor’s Office; Visit Eau Claire; Eau Claire Area School District; Eau Claire Police Department; Chippewa Valley Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union; and the Chippewa Valley Museum. 

Donations for the program can be made to Pablo Center or the UW-Eau Claire Foundation’s King Fund.
