Pablo Center Showcases High School Art Exhibit
Chippewa Valley High School students share their artistic expression with youth art gallery
Through the efforts of the Pablo Center’s dedication to all forms of art, each year all high schools within a 50-mile radius are welcome to participate in the annual High School Art Exhibit. Art teachers from each school select up to 10 pieces from their high school student’s artwork, which the public is then able to view both virtually and in person.
This year, the artwork is on display in the Brady and Jeanne Foust Gallery from February 24–April 23. The galleries are free to visit Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm and two hours before ticketed events.
“The Pablo Center values artistic self-expression and feels it is important that our area's youth have a voice,” said Rose Dolan-Neill, assistant director of artistic programming. “My hope, always, with our High School Art Exhibit is that the student has a feeling of belonging and a sense of acknowledgment of their artistic expression. All creatives should feel that Pablo Center is a safe space for exploration.”
With roots back to the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center, Dolan-Neill took over curation for the exhibit in 2014. The artwork is an abundance of youthful creativity, from self-portraits, photography, abstract and symbolic drawings, landscape paintings, ceramics, and more.
For a chance to see the truly massive variety that art is capable of, the High School Art Exhibit is not one to miss. Along with the exhibit’s multitude of art, a Meet the Artist’s Reception will be held on April 21 from 5-8pm, an opportunity to meet and chat with some of the artists from the gallery’s display.
“It is not just parents and friends of students, but everyone who walks through the doors of Pablo Center that see this artwork,” said Dolan-Neill. “This exhibit makes an impact on the community. It is an attempt to understand the choices and challenges of area youth through their artwork.”
