Megan Giefer is a down-to-earth gal – literally. Originally from MN, Megan moved to Eau Claire five years ago and is currently a Naturalist at Beaver Creek Reserve. She’s passionate about all things nature – hiking, camping, fishing – you name it, she loves it! Megan is also passionate about providing environmental education in the Chippewa Valley. You can learn from Megan by checking out Beaver Creek’s YouTube channel where she teaches a range of topics!

Eau Claire is one of the best communities that I’ve lived in, this town is full of people that all have one thing in common… spending time outdoors!

What frustrates you about the Chippewa Valley?

During football season, I always have to be cautious while wearing Minnesota Vikings gear, I get lots of odd looks! Especially when the Vikings and Packers are playing.

What is one of the best cultural experiences you’ve ever had in the Chippewa Valley?

Walking through the Eau Claire Farmers Market, chatting with various vendors, and trying new foods and produce that I haven’t experienced before.

What is your favorite piece of local trivia?

Well of course, I have some great trivia about nature! The Chippewa Valley is one of the best places to find native butterflies soaring through the sky. The Red Spotted Purple and the White Admiral are butterflies that are commonly found here. These butterflies are actually the same genetically but have different appearances. White Admirals are found in Northern Wisconsin and Red Spotted Purples are found in Southern Wisconsin. What makes this area so special is that we have BOTH!

Death bed, one meal from a local restaurant, what would it be?

My go-to is always a Smashed Burger from Northern Taphouse with Ellsworth Cheese Curds as my appetizer!

What book, TV show, or movie would you recommend to the members of city council?

A great book and movie that I would recommend is Wild by Cheryl Strayed! It’s an amazing book and true story about going on a solo journey and finding motivation even when times are hard.

What sort of economic development would you like to see in our area?

I would love to see a Trader Joe’s built here!

Megan's Shoutouts

Beaver Creek Butterfly House. “One of the most magical places to be in the summertime, and to all the volunteers and staff that help make it all happen.”

The Brewing Projekt. “Having a glass while sitting on the patio or deck overlooking the river is one of the most relaxing things to do on a summer afternoon.”

The Eau Claire River. “The County Rd D to K bridge is one of the best kayaking spots in the valley!”
