You may know her as Terry Wells, but many locals know her simply as Ma Wells. An Altoona resident and newly retired UW-Eau Claire Operations and Supply Chain Lecturer since 1993, Ma Wells can often be found at local live music events, lounging on the lake, and – most importantly – making time for friends and family. Now retired, Ma Wells is hoping to enjoy as many musical events as possible in her free time!

the Best part of teaching was advising a student group (APICS) and touring many local companies.
What place in town considers you a “regular”?
Hangar 54 – the exception to most airport establishments, I’ve been dining and drinking there since they opened and return frequently because of the exceptional service. The bartenders are fantastic, they make tasty cocktails and always find time for their customers.
What frustrates you about the Chippewa Valley?
I’m frustrated by the lack of mass transit to other cities – we need a dependable bus or train line to nearby metro areas.
What is one of the best cultural experiences you’ve had in the Chippewa Valley?
Hands down, the Fireball! Have been attending for years, this year attended both nights. Chris and crew do a phenomenal job of not only setting up exceptional entertainment but use the venue to educate allies.
If you were on your deathbed and you had to choose one meal from a local restaurant, what would it be?
Bacon Sweet Pepper Boneless Wings and a Wright Old Fashioned from Hangar 54.
Water Street or Downtown?
Depends on the night and friend group I am with, don’t make me choose between The Joynt and The Pablo Center!
What’s your favorite local festival?
The Eaux Claires festival was my favorite, it attracted people from all over the country and brought together many local musicians as well as huge acts. I also loved the art installations and the overall experience; it was brilliantly curated. A current local favorite festival is the Jazz Fest. Enjoy our local talented musicians as well as visiting with people during a fun-filled evening-wish we would hold something similar in the early fall.
Terry's Shoutouts
Lindsey Quinnies from the Local Store. “Behind the scenes working with local artisans to find the perfect inventory to stock the store and also providing an inviting atmosphere where locals and visitors want to linger.”
Magenta wine from Riverbend Winery. “To me it goes perfectly on a evening sitting on my deck. The winery is a great place to relax and taste some of their wines, every employee goes above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great quality experience.”
Lake Altoona. “It’s quiet, close to town and has a super relaxing vibe. For type As (like myself), perfect way to relax with a book, bonfire and friends. Watching full moon rise is spectacular!”
