Teen Advisory Board at L.E. Phillips Memorial Library is Accepting Applications
get involved in the library community!
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) at L.E. Phillips Memorial Library, a volunteer group consisting of teens with a passion for their local library, is now seeking applications. Those in grades 7-12 (between 12-18 years old) are welcome to apply!
“We are always happy to review new applications,” teen librarian Andria Rice said. The only requirement is to be a cardholder at the library!
If you want your voice to be heard at your local library and to get involved in fun events, then the TAB is for you! Past events the TAB has been involved in include the Blind Date with a Book Display, where teens selected books and wrapped them in paper and subtle hints to give the lucky reader or “date” – an idea of what they’ve selected. A recent event, the Live Action Clue Event, was held in August and brought board gaming to a life-sized level.
"... I have seen our members form friendships, build confidence in their abilities, and learn to work together to achieve a collective goal. They gain a sense of ownership and pride in their library, and in their community."

TEEN LIBRARIAN AT L.E. PHILLIPS MEMORIAL PUBLIC LIBRARY
“I’m so proud of our TAB and everything they’ve accomplished,” Rice said. “TAB members have the opportunity to share their perspectives, be truly heard, and work to improve the library. You only get what you put into the group, but I have seen our members form friendships, build confidence in their abilities, and learn to work together to achieve a collective goal. They gain a sense of ownership and pride in their library, and in their community.”
TAB members also gain volunteer experience, which can help with class requirements, scholarships, and college applications. “I've been a member of the Teen Advisory Board for 7 years and I have loved every second of it,” Bridget Mcllquham, president of TAB, said. “It has been profoundly rewarding to help promote literacy and educational opportunities for young adults in my community … I hope others will consider being a part of this committee and help its mission.”
