Independent musician and Eau Claire native Sarah Elstran, better known as The Nunnery, and multi-instrumentalist Dosh will open for the band Advance Base on the Eau Claire leg of their 2023 Christmas Tour. They will perform at The Stones Throw (304 Eau Claire St.) on Thursday, Dec. 7.

The Nunnery most recently performed in Eau Claire at the Masonic Temple last January. Prior to that, he most recent Eau Claire-area show was at Erb Acres Pumpkins outside Eleva for their Pumpkin Fest in late November last year. “It was a pretty noteworthy show with a beautiful 80-degree day, and toboggan sledding down a hill that I could witness while performing,” Elstran said. The Nunnery is currently working on some new songs and hopes to release more music this winter. In the meantime, Elstran is taking part in her first-ever European tour, bringing her ambient sound to several gigs in Belgium in mid-November.

Advance Base has performed around a half dozen Christmas tours, trying to visit different cities each time, in addition to a hometown show in Chicago. Owen Ashworth (Advance Base) hopes that next year’s Christmas shows will be mostly around New England.

This show will be The Nunnery’s first time sharing a bill with Advance Base. “I’m looking forward to seeing Advance Base for the first time,” Elstran said. “Also, I absolutely love collaborating with Dosh. We will be performing some improvised tunes during our set, which is always a fun and unique experience.”

The performance will be hosted by Farewell Transmission Radio, a program from of Converge Media’s radio station (101.9 FM). Under the banner of his radio show, Jordan Duroe helps book and promote live events. His involvement includes organizing the full lineup, securing sound equipment (if needed), designing promotional materials (or commissioning a local artist to do so), interviewing the artists, usually emceeing the show, and more.

The show is 21+ and doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. For more event details or to purchase tickets, head to Volume One tickets. To keep up with The Nunnery, check out the musician’s Facebook and Instagram, or visit the official website.
