Spend a totally tubular night to remember on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Heyde Center for the Arts as Agnes’s Table celebrates 20 years of service in the community. The theme of the 5-11pm event is “Totally Rad ’80s Prom Gone Bad.” Presented by Amanda Schneider with Edina Realty along with other local sponsors, all proceeds from this event (including ticket sales, silent auctions, and raffles) will go directly back to Agnes’ Table, a Chippewa Falls-based nonprofit which provides nutritious meals, hospitality, and advocacy for community members facing challenges from financial hardships to homelessness. So dig out the ol’ can of hairspray, slip in some sleuth’s shoulder pads, and practice your moonwalk for this fundraising whodunit!

According to Executive Director Angela Maloney, the idea for this first-time event came out of a conversation with a long-time volunteer, Tanya, who has experience in the murder mystery production field from working on the Twisted Tales of Horror event at Govin’s Farm in Menomonie. “They’re just so fun,” Maloney said. “So when she brought it up as an idea for a fundraiser, I thought, ‘That would be a blast!’ ”

Maloney – though a child of the ’90s herself – chose the theme: “Even though I’m not really old enough to be anybody who had any sort of fun in the ’80s, I – of course – did sport the big hair … and I love a good ’80s-themed anything!”

Eventgoers can expect top-notch dining, throw-backs on the dance floor, and the chance to experience an authentically ’80s prom without needing a plutonium-powered DeLorean. “We will have a backdrop and a student photographer to take those tacky and awkward prom pictures,” Maloney, who can’t wait for the iconic prom poses, said. “Prom is just so different these days. …(At the event) you’re going to see those classic ’80s pieces.”

The event will cost $100 per seat or $750 for a table of eight. Eventgoers can rest assured that their dollar is going toward a great cause. “People are not only going to get a night of amazing food, wonderful beverages, entertainment, and the opportunity to win some fun prizes,” Maloney said. “They’re also going to get an opportunity to learn more about what we do.

“If you’re struggling with hunger and homelessness, addiction, or trauma, these things can be extremely isolating. Agnes’s Table really is here to create connection and community. While the main aim is (to decrease) food insecurity, the main byproduct of that is that people are creating friendships … people are creating something they can count on for support,” Maloney said of her organization. “You don’t have to be alone. You can be here.” Don’t miss this night to remember!
