Beaver Creek Reserve (S1 County Hwy K, Fall Creek) has a simple mission – connect people with nature. Serving the area since 1947, Beaver Creek Reserve offers year-round environmental education and helpful resources to protect both the wildlife and the general public. Started just last month, the book club is a fun, inclusive activity that aligns with their vision and values.

Many of their volunteers, visitors, and community partners share a love for reading, conversation, and of course, nature. “For most, it’s a great way to get to know people with similar interests and converse with fellow bookworms,” Marketing and Program Director, Kristen Giefer, said.

Each month, a new book is showcased based on recommendations, interests, and topics decided on by the group. November’s chosen book was H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald and December’s book is Owls of the Eastern Ice: A Quest to Find and Save the World’s Largest Owl by Jonathan C. Slaght. “Most of our books feature some type of relation to nature, wildlife, personal outdoor experiences, historical nature-related events, and outdoor education,” Giefer said.

The Beaver Creek Reserve Book Club meets each week on Wednesday from 4:30-6pm. Attendees can join virtually or in person. “We are always looking for more members to join,” Giefer said. “We hope to see you there!”

The fee to join is $5 per month for members and $10 per month for non-members (not including the book fee). Books are available to purchase at the Nature Center store.

If you’re interested in joining, check out the Beaver Creek Reserve website and sign up through their event calendar.
