The Community Haven House, a day shelter and warming house in downtown Eau Claire, has lined up a temporary new location.
The day shelter, which serves Eau Claire’s homeless population, was told on Nov. 22 that it would have to relocate because its current building, 502 N. Farwell St., had been sold to an unidentified buyer.
According to a media release from Susan Wolfgram, who chairs the facility’s advisory committee, Community Haven House will have its last day of operation on Farwell Street on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The following day, it will temporarily relocate its operations to Sojourner House, 618 S. Barstow St., which typically serves only as an overnight shelter.
While the committee is “actively pursuing an alternative location,” Wolfgram wrote, one has not been confirmed. In the interim, Community Haven House will operate at Sojourner House Monday through Saturday 10am to 2pm, and Sunday 10am to 5pm. However, due to limited capacity, the shelter will be limited to 15 people.
“We are fully committed to finding another space to allow all who need shelter to have a place to rest and be safe,” the release stated. “We continue to pursue alternative locations at this time and will be prepared to shift services with little or no break in service when a newly acquired location is prepared to accept us.”
