“Shades of the Apple Tree” (2012) 11” x 17” Watercolor Pour by by Karen Scarseth • From the artist: “ This piece was completed quite a few years ago in a class held at the State Theatre. It was a watercolor pour class led by a famous northern WI/ Florida watercolorist, Kris Parins. The process is different from traditional watercolors. It has similarities to batik where you use a resist (not hot wax) and only red, yellow, and blue. You overlap colors to obtain different colors and shades. There is quite a bit of pre-planning involved. In this piece, I added a few resist areas and started with blue and yellow. Then came the red which added the different darker shades of green and red.”
