Newcomers Seek E.C. City Council Seats
five at-large members will be elected this spring
At least two new people will join the Eau Claire City Council as at-large members after an election later this spring.
Tuesday, Jan. 7, was the deadline for candidates to file to run on Tuesday, April 1, and seven Eau Claire residents submitted nomination paperwork. There will be five seats open in the election.
Two City Council incumbents, Kate Felton and Roderick Jones, are not seeking re-election, but three others are: Larry Mboga, Charlie Johnson, and Joshua Miller. They will be joined on the ballot by four other candidates: Philip Swanhorst, Nate Otto, Ethan Reed, and Mary Catherine Partlow.
Otto is a former member of the Eau Claire County board, while Partlow has previous sought a City Council seat. All candidates had been approved for the ballot except for Reed, who turned in his paperwork on Tuesday and whose status was still listed as “pending” on the city website as of Wednesday.
Numerous other positions will be on the April 1 ballot as well, including three seats on the Eau Claire school board. Only three candidates filed for those seats, the school district said Tuesday: incumbents Stephanie Farrar and Tim Nordin and newcomer Jasmine Case.
Depending on where you live, other town, village, city, and county offices may be on your ballot, as well as candidates for state superintendent of public instruction and Wisconsin Supreme Court.
