The Over Unders Take You Down '7th St.' With New Single and Album Announcement
forthcoming LP will mark first collection of songs from the rock outfit since their highly praised ‘No Soap Radio’ EP
Can you name a more iconic Chippewa Valley musical duo than Matt and Sam Hellman of The Over Unders? Having trouble? We’ll wait.
This powerful rock duo just dropped their latest single “7th St.,” a stripped-back rock song from their newly announced sophomore LP, Faces and Time, out May 30. This marks the group’s first collection of songs since 2022 watershed EP No Soap Radio, the project that put them on the local rock map.
“We embraced where we were at as a band, and after some change, we decided to change things up a bit,” Sam Hellman said. “We’ve been songwriters for a long time, so this time around we didn’t want to sit down with any preconceived rules for how we should sound and instead just writing from the heart and rolling with whatever direction the music goes in."
The Over Unders has gone through various lineup changes in the past few years, settling on keeping things simple and performing as a duo regularly throughout the Midwest.
Former Eau Clairians now based in the Twin Cities, the duo dabbles in alt rock, power pop, and hard rock. They have also branched out into country and pop music, thanks to the added keyboards and vocals of drummer Matt Hellman — the younger of the two Hellman brothers.
“The backbone of our band is the fact that we’re brothers and we grew up together, so there’s a natural chemistry that will always exist,” Matt said. “It makes it easier for us to know what we’re looking for in a song from each other, because we’ve been writing and performing together since we were teenagers. It’s almost effortless at times.”
The Hellman brothers are proof that a band can achieve longevity when its members genuinely connect and share the same goal: to enjoy making music.
"7th St." by The Over Unders is available now on all major streaming services.
