His newest single, "Sam's Hill" — released on May 2 — presents a noteworthy blend of folk and indie rock genres, inviting listeners to a comforting sonic space for introspection and familiarity.

The five-minute song unfolds through a tranquil rhythm, with an undercurrent of finger-picked acoustic guitar aided by blues-inspired keys. Monsoor's subtle vocals deliver a distinctive and memorable melody throughout the track.

While recently released, the song was written over 25 years ago, Monsoor noted, shortly after moving back to his hometown of La Crosse, Wisconsin from Los Angeles, California.

Yearning for a quiet space for creative work and to immerse himself in the beauty of natural landscapes, Monsoor came back to his roots and has called the Midwest home ever since.

“I’d taken the Driftless (region) for granted as a kid, but after my time in LA I was overwhelmed with gratitude to call this place home again,” Monsoor said. “ ‘Sam’s Hill’ reflects that transition and became part of my debut collection of songs, Comfortably Lost in Greenfield, Volume 1.”

The piece remained significant to him since its initial creation two decades ago. In 2024, it was reimagined with the collaboration of Eau Claire artists and musicians.

"Sam's Hill," penned by Monsoor, was produced and recorded at the Bungaleau studio in February of last year. The track now features Courtney Hartman on electric guitar and vocal harmonies, Paul Brandt on keys, Pat Keen on bass, and JT Bates on drums.

“I feel pretty damn lucky to work with this group of friends, new and old, who brought it to life in ways I couldn’t have imagined,” Monsoor shared online.

The recording — produced by Shane Leonard in their home studio — possesses a warmth that establishes texture without becoming cluttered in noise, as described by Where The Music Meets. With two decades of history and growth embedded in the track, Monsoor walks a familiar and nostalgic path alongside the new influences of his musical counterparts.
