“Night Garden” (2024) • 11" x 14" • Acrylic on paper/collage by Jeanne Styczinski • From artist: “I’m a collage illustrator. To make my illustrations I first must make the painted papers. To do that, I paint with acrylic paint over newsprint. It usually takes several layers of different colors of paint to achieve the look. I use objects I find (antique kitchen tools, children's toys, commercial texture tools…) to print patterns and or make textures that give my papers a unique look. Then, I use these papers to collage the illustrations for my children’s books, framed art, and greeting cards.
Night Garden is a special piece I did for my granddaughter, Millie. Babies are up many times during the night. This colorful Night Garden is what I imagined Millie saw when she looked out her bedroom window.
