“Bountiful Summer" by Andrea Paulseth, Allison Buchli, and Jade Juedes

Jade Juedes, left, and Allison Buchli, right, photographed by Andrea Paulseth while setting up for Volume One's annual Best of Summer issue cover shoot. Each year, Volume One's design team brainstorms what the summertime issue's theme will be, beginning with the glossy cover. Setup and photography was completed just outside The Local Store and Volume One building, 205 N. Dewey St., Eau Claire, on the patio. (And yes, The Local Store sells the pots, plants, and gardening supplies pictured!)

“Bountiful Summer” (2025) • Digital photography • photographed by Andrea Paulseth, designed by Allison Buchli & Jade Juedes • From artists: “There is a quote by Audrey Hepburn that goes, 'To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.' For this year's Best of Summer issue cover, we wanted to set the scene for that hopeful and rewarding feeling you may experience when pulling on your well-worn gardening gloves, dragging out the pots and soil, and searching for your tucked away tools stored in the garage since last summer. Next thing you know, you're digging a home for teeny tiny seeds, that with enough care and patience will blossom into something of beauty, nourishment, or both!"

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
