“In an ideal world, our brain and body communicate with no interferences. The problem is, we have stress in our lives, whether that be physical, chemical, or emotional stressors,” Dr. Alice Kephart, founder and owner of Eau Claire’s Rejoice Chiropractic, explained in a recent interview. “That creates disorganization in how our brain and body communicate, which leads to symptoms or dysfunctions, and why people may come into my office.”
Dr. Alice makes it sounds simple — as an expert should. Yet, while relief may be what initially draws people into Rejoice Chiropractic, a combination of things keep them coming back: genuine person-to-person connection and an unbridled passion for family and perinatal care being just a few of them.
After returning to Eau Claire a few years ago — Dr. Alice earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology from UW-Eau Claire in 2017 — Rejoice Chiropractic opened its doors in central Eau Claire in 2021. Just shy of its four-year anniversary, the family practice has already been part of numerous family journeys, and families’ growth.
Rejoice is bathed in sunlight thanks to ample windows in the lobby space, illuminating the waiting area supplied with children’s toys and books. Dr. Alice, with her own little ones (her second child born in the new year), encourages patients to bring their families along to visits whether or not they are patients themselves.
“You shouldn’t feel like you have to plan your appointments and care around your life,” Dr. Alice said. “We are so family focused, and want everyone to feel comfortable here.”
Her focus on women’s and perinatal care has created a space where parents, and specifically moms, have found unique service. “There is truly no such thing as TMI,” Dr. Alice added.
Further, patients and the public have recently been able to partake in “monthly mom meetups,” a new offering sparked by a sentiment Dr. Alice hears frequently in both her personal and professional spheres: It’s hard to make friends as an adult.
Beginning this summer, monthly hangouts ranging from casual chats over coffee to educational workshops have gathered and connected local moms. Being able to connect moms to one another is fulfilling in a unique way for Dr. Alice, and ties into perhaps her most core mission: Empowering women.
“Part of the reason I wanted to open my own practice in Eau Claire was because there aren’t a lot of offices that focus specifically on the populations of moms and kids, and especially in perinatal care,” she said.
“A goal of mine through every interaction is to empower women, especially during pregnancy, to voice their thoughts related to their care. Women have been birthing babies for generations and God gave us this beautiful ability, so if something doesn’t feel right to you, it is more than OK to take a pause and think about what you want.”
A result of Rejoice’s forthright honesty and encouragement with each patient is the ability to approach each person’s care plan with true individuality. As Dr. Alice explained, dysfunction or disorganization between the brain and body — otherwise known as subluxation — shows up differently in different people and across age groups.
For babies, subluxation could result in colic, trouble pooping, or having a hard time nursing and latching; for school-aged kids, it could look like outbursts, difficulty focusing, or bed-wetting; and in adults, it’s most commonly exemplified by headaches, neck pain, or lower back pain.
“Every adjustment aims to remove that disorganization and allow the brain and body to better communicate. We’re taking the static out,” Dr. Alice explained. “That helps the body get back to functioning at its best.”
And while various lifestyle changes or care modalities are often helpful as well, Rejoice is wholly focused on chiropractic care. To that end, Dr. Alice recently completed a significant pediatric certification program — 80 online coursework hours and 20 in-person clinic hours — in order to continue building her education around pediatric care.
As Rejoice approaches its four-year anniversary and continues growing, Dr. Alice envisions a potential future of collaboration. While the team focuses on chiropractic care and “world-class adjustments to help people function and feel better,” she often refers out for pelvic floor physical therapy and lactation.
“The potential for that kind of expansion — if these resources could be just down the hall from Rejoice, housed in the same building or together — is exciting,” she said.
As Rejoice’s client base continues to grow and thrive, the Eau Claire team invites anyone curious about chiropractic care to reach out — individuals and families.
Rejoice is typically able to see new patients within about one week, with initial appointments — including a consultation, scans, and a one-on-one to share findings and discuss potential paths forward — a total cost of $100.
