Enjoy Spring Sounds With Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra
March 22 concert to feature Beethoven, Ralph Vaughan Williams works and more
The Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra's (ECCO) first spring concert – slated for Sunday, March 22 at 2pm at the JAMF Theater in the Pablo Center (128 Graham Ave., Eau Claire) – will feature soloist and local virtuoso violinist Ryan Poquette for Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending.
While serving in the artillery service during World War I, Vaughan Williams was inspired by The lark Ascending poem by George Meredith – and began scoring it for violin.
The orchestra, conducted by Dr. Matthew Poon, will also perform Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, one of his most popular and iconic symphonies. Ludwig van Beethoven began composing the symphony in 1812 while seeking relief from his deafness in the Bohemian spa town of Teplitz.
In addition, ECCO will play pioneering African-American composer Dorothy Rudd Moore’s Transcension: I Have Been to the Mountaintop. This piece is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and was written in recognition of the first national holiday celebration of his birthday.
Tickets to the spring show are $30 (excluding additional fees) per person or, for students under age 21, free. Tickets can be bought online through the Pablo Center or at the door.
