LEARN AT YOUR PACE. Today, fewer than a third of students kindergarten through 12th grade nationwide are working at a grade-level proficiency in reading across multiple grades. With these stats in mind, Sylvan Learning of Eau Claire (3409 Golf Rd) certified educators provide both academic resources and accessible tutoring – all with the goal to empower local students and their families.

Many of us remember the anticipation to receive seasonal report cards and the fateful performance review across mathematics, the arts, science and reading. Similarly, the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) issues a “Nation’s Report Card” each year, to measure broader academic health.

With the 2026 national report card approaching – and amid concerns of the current academic landscape and college readiness – Sylvan Learning continues to provide immersive, mastery-based programs to empower local students.

Sylvan Learning emphasizes direct, in person instruction from certified, locally trained educators. These personal interactions are tailored to build relationships, increase student motivation and build confidence amongst the region’s K-12 students.

Nationally, Sylvan has been a fixture in the educational landscape since 1979; its local presence in the community dates back to 2001.

Sylvan Learning of Eau Claire offers K-12 tutoring, college and career readiness preparation to help your child at any stage of their educational path. Services can range from reading, study skills, test prep, writing, math – to everyday homework help.

“We are developing a relationship with students, their family and even into the school classroom,” Kayann Bock, the executive director of Sylvan Learning of Eau Claire, said. “We get to really know the child in more ways than just whether or not they know their reading or study skills.

“We explore how they learn, what is their best learning style and how to get personal with the students’ needs,” she continued.

Bock, a lifelong educator, has been with Sylvan Learning of Eau Claire for over two decades and witnesses firsthand the confidence instilled in students through Sylvan Learning instruction.

Fewer than a third of today’s students nationwide are working at a grade-level proficiency in reading across multiple grades; math scores on college preparedness testing are also seeing historic lows, she said.

Common test preparations with educators at Sylvan Learning of Eau Claire include the SAT, ACT, statewide standardized tests and more.

Instead of falling into these nationwide NAGB statistics, students and educators at Sylvan Learning begin with an assessment for every student – whether they are behind, at grade level, or seeking enrichment – to identify exactly what they know and what is yet to be learned.

“We align everything that we teach – and lesson plans are designed personally for each student – around the local school standards,” Bock said. “We are all certified educators and we are not relying (on) just a test score or a computerized program. It’s very personalized per student to achieve mastery.”

Sylvan Learning of Eau Claire offers K-12 tutoring, college and career readiness preparation to help your child at any stage of their educational path. Tutoring services can range from reading, study skills, test prep, writing, math – to everyday homework help.

The Eau Claire location works most frequently with students who are between grades four through eight, who are scoring six to 18 months behind academically. About 20% of their students seek support for educational enrichment and college preparation.

After their time with Sylvan Learning, students at Sylvan demonstrate three times more growth in subjects they previously struggled with and see higher grade point averages.

Bock said the Eau Claire location of the nationally-recognized organization has served thousands of students across western Wisconsin and remains “committed to serving more students for years to come.”

“We know they have the ability to advance and Sylvan’s approach is personalized and designed for mastery, so students catch up and stay ahead,” Bock said. “We are always working for the higher benchmark – not just to be at grade level, but to be above grade level.”
