A new "chaotic yet poetic" production from Speck Of Dust Theatre has arrived to The Grand Theatre (102 W Grand Ave.) in downtown Eau Claire. "Dog Act," a play by Liz Duffy Adams and directed by Logan Toftness will continue its weekend-long run through Aug. 15.
"If you have an encyclopedic knowledge of Shakespeare, you’re in for a treat, as there are constant references and paraphrases," the cast and crew shared online. "For everyone else, consider it a fabular, much more lighthearted 'Station Eleven,' with a little Peter Pan crossover."
The production follows Zetta Stone and a troupe of performers as they wander through a ruined United States – trying to survive its harsh and chaotic landscape. With an intimate cast of six local players, themes of physical and psychological survival – as well as the preservation of humanity through art – unfold as the story progresses.
"A friend asked what I would want the audience to take away from the show. I think: Acknowledge shit happens and learn to let go of the past so you can look to the future wholeheartedly," Denise-Alondra Bustamante, Zetta Stone in "Dog Act," said.
