Honey, it’s here! Honey Literary’s fifth issue, released on Feb. 14, features dozens of pieces written by women and queer, femme, and BIPOC individuals ranging from poetry, essays, interviews, and more. Just days before the latest issue launched, Honey Literary was also featured in New York magazine’s Jan. 16-29 issue – quite the cherry-on-top moment, even before the lovers’-day release.

As New York magazine’s Vulture put it, readers have come to expect “a little bit of everything” from Honey Literary, and its latest issue did not disappoint.

Co-founder and editor-in-chief, Dr. Dorothy Chan, offered a triple sonnet as their editor’s note for the fifth issue, aptly titled “A Triple Sonnet for Valentine’s Day”. In typical Chan fashion, their lines are biting and delicious – what better way to open the Feb. 14 release?

Reflection on affirmations, self-love, NeoPets, musing on hindsight and its 20/20 vision, calling out rapper Drake, searching for where race and sexuality and humanity fit – or doesn’t – into it all; Honey Literary’s latest issue offers dozens of works that are not at all what you’d typically expect, and all worth your attention (not that they need to work for it).

Its nine-strong masthead, which refers to itself as the Hive, closed submissions for the Valentine’s Day issue back in mid-December, editing and molding the collection now available for free online. Then, just a week shy of Feb. 14, Honey Literary shared the news of its name-drop in New York magazine, adding to the excitement from the Hive leading up to issue five.
