they’re the first eatery in the area to offer it what may be your new fave pizza
California Tacos opened its first storefront on Water Street in January after being a favorite food truck in the area for years. After settling into the new space – formerly home to Water St. Deli & Grocery – and putting in new seating alongside new signage, the California Tacos menu expanded too, most recently with birria pizza.
Perhaps one of the eatery’s most unique dishes included its birria ramen, though its birria section on the menu is loaded with other eats like birria fries, quesabirria tacos, birria nachos, and even birria by the pound!
In mid-August, the popular Mexican-style restaurant launched a new menu item that is a first for the Eau Claire area: birria pizza. Made with California Tacos’ slow-cooked tender beef, marinated in a blend of spices and seasonings for hours, the “pizza” is made with two 14-inch flour tortillas, the birria going in-between the tortilla layers with mozzarella cheese, cilantro, and onion, and is served with consommé.
Priced at $28, it’s an explosion of flavor served up by the slice and can feed up to 3-4 people.
