Leinenkugel’s officially launched Lakeside Cherry on Jan. 26 at Chippewa Falls’ Leinie Lodge alongside the early release of Summer Shandy. For Women’s History Month and on International Women’s Day, March 8, the brewery highlighted the inspiration behind the Gose-style beer: Rose Leinenkugel. 

Just after alcohol was re-legalized following Prohibition, Leinenkugel’s was not equipped – physically or financially – to make beer again. Rose, daughter of founder Jacob Leinenkugel, put her home on the line to save the family business. Mortgaging her house, Rose saved the business and restored it to its pre-Prohibition glory: The brewery is now known as one of the oldest in the nation. 

“In her honor, Lakeside Cherry is a crisp and refreshing beer made with real cherry juice and natural cherry flavor,” said Sarah Kemp, Leinie’s associate director of media relations. “The use of cherries creates a rose-colored liquid, honoring Rose and all pioneering, resilient women like her.”
