The nipple factory is slipping onto streaming platforms and up for grabs on DVD in just a couple of weeks! Mom & Dad’s Nipple Factory, a documentary set in Eau Claire and created by native Juston Johnson (Justinsuperstar), follows the real-life story of a Midwestern family, breast cancer, and its prosthetic nipple business.

The quirky, personal documentary (shot by Johnson over the course of nearly a decade, featuring his family and their friends) knows how to get you right in the heart. It’s an honest, heartwarming look at a conservative family coming together, their parents’ love story, and the niche business that blossomed from it. It’s a sort of rom-com in a way, detailing Randi and Brian Johnson’s own four-decade love story, and what a family – and its community – will do for one another when times get tough.

“It’s pretty crazy. I’ve been working on this for almost a decade. ... It’s one thing to screen at film festivals – that’s like a firework going off – but having it on streaming is really amazing and can spread (the the film’s) positive message.“

The film has seen incredible circuit success and audience response, earning the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 2023 Milwaukee Film Festival – where it premiered to a sold-out, 1,000-seat auditorium – and Best of Fest award at the 2023 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival. Recently, it also gained a celebrity executive producer: Mayim Bialik (Blossom, The Big Bang Theory).

Bialik is also a lactation specialist and – after her team recommended the film to her – connected with Johnson. It resonated with her on a variety of levels, so much so that she came aboard as an executive producer.

Perhaps one of the pinnacle moments since the documentary began showing across the country was its Eau Claire debut last summer. “This film was also a love letter to Eau Claire, where I grew up,” Johnson said. Mom & Dad’s Nipple Factory was shown at The Pablo Center last August, welcoming a sold-out crowd of 1,000 people and the Johnson family themselves for a post-film showing Q&A.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Johnson said of the trajectory of the documentary’s success over the past couple of years. “I’ve been working on this for almost a decade. ... It’s one thing to screen at film festivals – that’s like a firework going off – but having it on streaming is really amazing and can spread (the film's) positive message.”

The significance of the film going to streaming in an election year, just months ahead of voting season, is not lost on the family. “This film is also about family unity,” Johnson said.

The next major move in the documentary’s journey is its DVD and streaming debut, set for Sept. 10. Mom & Dad’s Nipple Factory will be available for rent and purchase on Amazon, while hitting streaming platforms Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, and Google Play, as well.

The DVD is already available for pre-order on Amazon, where it will also be up for rent. Locally, Mom & Dad’s Nipple Factory will soon be available at The Local Store (205 N. Dewey St., Eau Claire).
