MidWest WeirdFest announced the first wave of programming for its ninth annual festival, slated for March 6-9 at Micon Downtown Cinema in Eau Claire, in early January. Days later, the passing of American auteur David Lynch was announced, and now the festival plans to honor the late great with a special screening of Eraserhead.

A late-night screening of the 1977 Lynch classic will be held at 10pm on Saturday, March 7, as part of MidWest WeirdFest. Lynch, who passed away on Jan. 15, is known for his signature surrealist films and is lauded as one of the greatest American filmmakers of all time.

Accompanying the Eraserhead screening will be a short documentary about veteran rock producer Butch Vig’s own odd encounter with Lynch, which inspired Silversun Vig-Up’s song and music video “David Lynch Has a Painting Made of Flies Eyes.”

Rounding out the showings will be 253 Yards East, a short film by longtime residents of North Bend, Washington – which was the shooting location of Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks. Created by Bob and Laura Antone, the short film features Bob as he offers insight into the location’s odd geography that inspired the setting of the cult-favorite TV show.

Tickets for MidWest WeirdFest’s David Lynch tribute are now up for grabs online at $8.50/ticket. Individual tickets to other films part of the festival will go on sale closer to the festival dates, both online and at Micon Downtown Cinema.
