C.V. Symphony Orchestra Announces Search For New Music Director, Conductor
applications are now being accepted for pivotal leadership role ahead of Nobuyoshi Yasuda’s retirement
The Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra (CVSO) has carved a legacy all its own in the community since its founding in 1975. With longtime leader Nobuyoshi Yasuda’s 33rd and final CVSO season kicking off at the end of September, so too is the search for his replacement.
For the first time in over 30 years, the orchestral organization’s key leadership role – music director and conductor – is open. Formally announced on Sept. 30, CVSO is now accepting applications for the role through Nov. 1, 2025, with a projected timeline aiming to select finalists in February 2026.
The role – a part-time, independent contractor position – has an annual compensation of $18,200 and will report directly to the board of directors while working closely with the executive director and board president.
CVSO performs in the state-of-the-art RCU Theatre at Pablo Center at the Confluence and maintains a strong, longterm partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Music and Theatre Arts Department.
The Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra's mission: To provide excellent symphonic experiences to audiences in the Chippewa Valley. Our goals are to (1) Increase understanding and appreciation of orchestral music to an expanding audience, (2) Provide our audiences with a diversity of orchestral selections and artists, and (3) Provide an opportunity for talented local musicians to perform.
The organization’s typical concert season runs September-May with five total concert cycles (three classical concerts, one holiday pops concert, one educational concert performed twice in one day). About 100 total musicians per season are guided by the music director and conductor.
Among the posting’s listed qualifications and responsibilities, an ideal candidate should demonstrate deep knowledge of orchestral repertoire, music history, and diverse musical styles; significant orchestral conducting experience; practical knowledge of all orchestral instruments, including working knowledge of string techniques; and mastery of at least one instrument with performance experience, among additional musical and leadership qualities.
The future music director and conductor should bring vision, passion, and the ability to make symphonic music relevant and exciting for existing and new audiences; have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and be willing to actively engage in the Chippewa Valley community, among additional leadership and personal qualities.
