Of all that take place in the Chippewa Valley, a few sporting events truly stand out. An Eau Claire Express game on the Fourth of July (Carson Park, Eau Claire) is something special to behold. From the patriotic jerseys to the fireworks display after the game, in Eau Claire, it feels like something of a “can’t-miss” event. Within the same month comes the U.S. National Kubb Championship. As of 2011, Eau Claire became the Kubb Capital of North America. This Championship is the largest kubb tournament outside of Europe and is a game welcome to all skill and experience levels. This major competition is quite the event for the city of Eau Claire, all taking place at the Eau Claire Soccer Park. The Ski Sprites Waterski Team of Altoona puts on a magnificent show out on Lake Altoona. For over 60 years, the team has been performing for the people of the Chippewa Valley. With approximately 80 members, from skiers to hosts and volunteers, Sunday and Wednesday nights from Memorial Day through Labor Day are guaranteed to be action-packed. –Devon Verbsky
