Every summer, the UW-Eau Claire campus is transformed into a vibrant spectacle of color, art, and local magic — a sight eagerly anticipated by Eau Claire residents.

This past weekend – 11am-7pm on Saturday, July 26 – the university and event organizers welcomed 184 individual artists to display their talents during the 18th annual Chalkfest.

Attendees and artists started their day bright and early at 7am to begin their work and view the installations as they were created. Later in the afternoon, from 2-4pm, a jury of local artists issued the Adult Jury Prize to Bella Speece for their depiction of koi fish swimming in a bright blue pond — with an optical illusion effects so that the pond appears to crack through the sidewalk.

Open voting for the Audience Choice, Youth Jury Prize, and other awards continued from 11am-4:30pm.

The day-long event was further brought to life with live music from Gaff Mountain, Auronova, and Brotherhood of Birds; mid-day bites and treats from local food trucks including Guac N' Roll, Mi Mi Cafe, Tene's Lemonade, and others; plus a local makers market to take home a souvenir from the event.

Younger kids and families enjoyed the free activities on site, complete with yard games, spaces to draw a chalk masterpiece of their own, and more.
