The growing "Eau Claire Hardcore" collective has brought another lineup of heavy hitters to the Valley – spanning genres of straight edge, modern metalcore, punk and more.

On Sunday, March 22, Daniel Coughlin, an Eau Claire Hardcore organizer, brought together four bands from the Minneapolis and Madison area to SHIFT (615 Graham Ave.) for a one night performance. The bill featured Fear The Dark, Misery Whip, Another Enemy and Ethic.

Some of these artists have described their music as "working class metal," which Misery Whip shared online. It's industrial roots and working-class backgrounds tend to stress a sonic reflection of social resistance – characterized through gritty and raw sounds.

While others – in the case of Fear The Dark – prefer a sound which can only be described as "brutal hardcore," a sub-genre of hardcore punk which blends the vocalists' styles with down-tuned guitars and slow, crushing breakdowns found in heavy metal.

No matter your preference – beatdown, heavy, straight edge, or any other style that falls under the hardcore umbrella – there was a place for locals of all ages in the heart of this downtown Eau Claire coffee shop.

"Tonight was a best case scenario for vibes and great bands," Coughlin shared online. "Thank you to the bands for wanting to play here. Thank you to SHIFT for partnering with me to host these events and thank you to every person who showed up and made it a great night."
