Devil's Punchbowl

A surreal geological rarity, and must-experience local natural landmark outside Menomonie. Created by the movement of glaciers over 500 million years ago, the bowl is a stunning sandstone hollow circle where a waterfall trickles down to the center. Be sure to go when it's frozen for a totally different experience.

Dunville State Wildlife Area aka "Dunnville Bottoms"

A 4,200 acre space with a diverse habitat, expansive beaches along the Chippewa River, floodplain forests, backwater sloughs, prairie, and oak savanna. Recreation opportunities include biking, birding, boating, camping on state-owned islands and sandbars, swimming, fishing, cross-country skiing, fishing, hiking, hunting, foraging, and more.

Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area

A 700+ acre state park with rolling hills, woods, a grass-prairie, wetlands, ponds, and trails leading to a 60-foot observation tower with a wonderful view, worth the climb. There are 9+ miles of hiking trails, including 2 miles of interpretive nature trails. Hike through 15-acre tall grass prairie restoration, view wildlife in a wetland trail that's accessible to people with disabilities. There are picnic areas, and a 9-day gun deer season.

Lake Menomin Park

Lake Menomin is a 10009 acre man-made reservoir with abundant public boat landings and great fishing spots for large/smallmouth bass, northern pike, panfish, and walleye. The trail system at Lake Menomin Park has mountain biking trails with varied difficulty, and hiking trails. There are heavily wooded portions with native plant species, small ponds, and meadows to enjoy.

Muddy Creek Wildlife Area

Known locally as the Elk Mound Swamp, this 4,100 acre assemblage of properties features prominently a marsh and sedge meadow with numerous "islands" that are wooded or prairie. There are numerous restored wetlands, a a great deal of plant diversity, and a protected sedge meadow. There are hunting and trapping opportunities for waterfowl, birding, boating (non-motorized), fishing, hiking, wild edibles, and more.
