The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has celebrated organizations and initiatives through its Recycling Excellence Awards for over a decade. From now through Sept. 14, the DNR will accept nominations for the 2026 awards iteration.

Open to those which demonstrate “outstanding recycling or waste diversion achievements,” the Recycling Excellence Awards also spotlights those ideas or initiatives with “proven track records” that could inspire others.

Last year, the DNR recognized a record 22 awardees across its four categories: Projects and Initiatives, Overall Program, Special Events and Innovation.

Previous winners have included Village, City and County waste management programs, public schools and universities, recycling- and sustainability-focused events, among others.

Nominations – self-nominations and otherwise – can be submitted online and should include a filled-out nomination form, photo release form and supporting documents as necessary.
