Instilling strong dental hygiene habits in children starts with a “positive first impression — one built on trust, comfort, and fun. At Smiles in Motion Pediatric Dentistry, those values are the foundation of every visit. Founded by Dr. Amanda Spitz, the practice is centered around creating an environment where kids feel safe, understood, and even excited about going to the dentist.
“I’ve always loved working with children,” says Dr. Spitz. “During dental school, the days I looked forward to most were the ones spent treating kids. That’s when I knew I wanted to specialize in pediatric dentistry.”
That passion led Dr. Spitz to launch Smiles in Motion in 2008, with the first clinic opening in Chippewa Falls in 2009. Her goal? To transform how families experience dental care. “I wanted to reimagine what going to the dentist could feel like for children and their parents — to make it exceptional from the very beginning,” she explains.
Over the past 16 years, Smiles in Motion has expanded to include locations in Eau Claire, Menomonie, Rice Lake, Amery, and Hudson. Each office is staffed by experienced pediatric dentists who have completed two additional years of training after dental school, with a specialized focus on treating infants, children, and teens — including those with special healthcare needs.
That training goes beyond clinical care. “Pediatric dentistry also requires a deep understanding of child development and psychology,” Dr. Spitz explains. “We teach our team to approach every child with empathy and compassion, no matter their situation.”
The result? A practice designed to reduce anxiety and build confidence. From the youngest patients coming in for their very first checkup to teenagers maintaining their dental health, every child is treated with kindness and care. Dental instruments are introduced with fun, kid-friendly language, and children can choose to chat about the “sugar bugs” being chased away or simply relax with movies or music during their appointments.
Parents, too, find comfort in the thoughtful care provided. “When a child needs dental treatment, it can be emotional for families,” Dr. Spitz says. “We take the time to talk through all available options and make sure parents feel informed and supported.” Many caregivers have shared how relieved they are to bring their children to a place that prioritizes joy and trust.
“We want to make a difference in both our patients’ lives and in the places we call home. Bigger smiles start with stronger communities.”
Smiles in Motion offices are designed to be as inviting as the care they provide. The Chippewa Falls location, for example, features a playful lobby with a real slide and hands-on activities, plus bright, colorful exam rooms. In every location, children can watch a show or movie during treatment to help them feel calm and at ease.
No matter what your child’s dental needs may be, the team at Smiles in Motion offers a full range of pediatric dental services — from preventive care and cleanings to more complex treatments — all delivered in a welcoming, child-centered atmosphere.
