The Chippewa Valley has beautiful hills, full forests, and smooth waterways that make any hiking trail in the area a winner. However, the best of the best, voted by locals, is Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area (740th St., Menomonie). Known for its incredible wooded hills, wetlands, and prairies, the 700-acre recreational area has a lookout with a breathtaking view and accessible trails for all. Voted second, Beaver Creek Reserve (S1 County Hwy. K, Fall Creek) has an array of trails available year-round that allow you to explore all 9 miles of their property. With prairies, woodlands, and a gorgeous creek throughout, plus learning opportunities galore, Beaver Creek Reserve is great for the whole family. For hiking through the geologic history that makes the Valley so unique, the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Trail (13394 County Hwy. M, New Auburn) rounds out the top three. Part of the newly declared National Park, the Ice Age Trail runs for 1,200 miles and features glacial lakes, unique geology, and wildlife that may just join you for a jaunt. —Kelly Carlson
