McKenna Scherer

Managing Editor

A Chippewa Valley native, McKenna Scherer fell back in love with her hometown – after earning her bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations and film studies –  while working at Volume One.

Fresh out of school with about four years of college newspaper experience, she started out as a part-time associate editor at Volume One, steadily growing into a full-time associate editor and taking on more responsibilities; earning a couple of Milwaukee Press Club awards along the way.

Scherer became the magazine's managing editor in Spring 2025 and continues to write, edit, and design for the publication. She now heads the editorial team and supports the folks who help bring all the magic to life, still writing a dozen or so of her own articles for each issue and overseeing whatever other chaos is cookin' up on the editorial side of V1.

All that while attempting to staying afloat in the never-ending void – email – takes up a lot of time, but outside of the office, she can most often be found at an antique or thrift store, in a recliner at Micon Cinema, or getting an iced coffee in downtown Eau Claire.
