McKenna Scherer

Managing Editor

A Chippewa Valley native, McKenna Scherer fell back in love with her hometown – after graduating from Winona State University with a bachelor's degree in mass communication and journalism, public relations, and film studies – while working at Volume One as an associate editor for about three years. Prior to joining the V1 team, she worked at her college newspaper for 4 years and was editor-in-chief for 1.5 of those, earning an Associated Collegiate Press award and journalism scholarship.

As an associate editor, she wrote hundreds of articles, photographed area events, honed her design skills (Adobe InDesign, you are enemy no. 1), and earned two Milwaukee Press Club awards. Scherer became the magazine's managing editor in Spring 2025 and continues to write, edit, and design for the publication. She now heads the editorial team and oversees the folks who help bring all the magic to life – to V1's local contributors, you have my heart! – while staying afloat in the never-ending void that is email.

Outside of the office, she can most often be found at an antique or thrift store, in a recliner at Micon Cinema, or getting an iced coffee in downtown Eau Claire (no matter the temperature or season).
